How did I get here.

Somehow I just knew. My first introduction to Africa was as a Peace Corps volunteer. Stationed in Botswana near the border of what had just become Zimbabwe, I witnessed too many sides of humanity to return to the comparative complacency of the first world. One early flashback was of assembly lines of staff using magic markers to scratch out ‘Salisbury’ and write by hand ‘Harare.’ That was a long time ago. A lot has changed. My African experiences began there and continue from here in South Africa. It has been a privilege to be part of many different kinds of changes in these three countries. Changes which are recreating themselves at a pace which challenges social medias’ ability to report them. As participants, we absorb, see and feel what we experience. Therefore, the experiences I share are not filtered through any forum but subject to my personal involvement and perceptions.

About me.

I have been a contributing writer for NAES (national association for ethnic studies), and am published in ‘Living with Class.’ I’ve written feature articles for magazines and newspapers focussing on interesting events and the continuing ways in which associations of class and culture intersect and recreate themselves within the context of these events. The creativity and spirit which so many people possess is an endorsement of our ability to persevere beyond boundaries. Also, beginning with my launch into the Peace Corps, I have taught communications and English literature and language to a wide range of students and individuals who have in turn taught me valuable lessons which have had profound influences over my writing in particular as well as my overall perspective of life. Currently, I am writing and blogging for a group of boutique hotels, wine farms, exclusive food stores and variety of local entrepreneurs involved with everything from designing and developing natural and environmentally friendly skin products, to methods of designing specialised dog food, to cultivating eco friendly human food and supplements.

We are all connected as organic beings. Writing about the confluence of these connections is my personal crusade.
